New Addition to Historic Heroes Collection: Garveyism
Drahuws is releasing a new print for the Historic Heroes Collection, a series celebrating Black culture by the African American artist.
Garveyism recaptures the vibrant energy, pride, and passion felt when Marcus Garvey rode through the streets of New York’s Harlem in 1922. A Jamaican-born Black nationalist, Garvey led the Pan-Africanism movement, seeking to unify and connect people of African descent worldwide. Eventually moving to the United States, he became a noted civil rights activist and founder of the Negro World newspaper, as well as the Black Star Line shipping company and the Universal Negro Improvement Association.
This Black art print is vibrant with colors reflecting the pride of the Harlem community. It includes Drahuws’ narrative-driven characters The Black Kristof’s bearing witness behind Garvey and another figure from a historic photo. Drahuws’ pop art protagonists are attired in Cross Colours LA, the 90s hip-hop clothing brand that embraces respect, humanity, and unity.
